What is special to you?

February 15th 2009 08:17
As Valentine's Day passes by once again, you think for a second as your night almost ends with your bf/gf/husband/wife or partner - Is Valentine's Day overrated?
I, myself enjoyed a night with all things going wrong, or not as I had hoped and then realsed I was quite upset by the end of the night. I am a romantic, but even though things do go wrong, you're still with that person right?
My partner had to jolt me back to reality and it did make me realise it's just another day that EVERYONE celebrates.
What is special are moments that only you can cherish with your loved one.

So ladies..if things go wrong (like you wern't impressed with the card or you were too late getting to an event), you still have each other.

Dukes Of Windsor- Minus (new album)

September 24th 2008 02:23
[COLOR=Lime]Dukes Of Windsor:
Minus

Remembering the days when I would hear ‘The Others, feat. TV Rock’ on the dance floor amongst the housey beats was a memory of enjoying those house tunes and dancing like a maniac, being a young excited teen. It was a favourite on the dance floors for quite a while.
The Dukes Of Windsor have come a long way since first releasing this single in 2007.
Hearing their newest album ‘Minus’ is a whole new fresh approach. These guys have made a huge leap into the indie/electro/pop genre, and it works!

They have attitude, catchy guitar rifts, and sounding like a band but with a pop feel, stripping their house look and are now showing off their new indie/electro look.

Their next track ‘It’s A War’ felt like it was being air-played constantly and they have used this track to catapult their latest album and new sound.

Making an impression straight away with their first single ‘No Disguise’ expresses a hard rock beat with strong lyrics making you wanting more and actually listen to the rest of the cd.

Their album has such a diverse sound and melody from dark to uplifting, to electro right back to indie/alternative.

With bands like Infusion and the Presets who have mastered the combination of alternative, electronic and pop, there are definitely influences of these guys oozing through these new tunes.

It is refreshing to hear something different from guys who started out in the house genre, showing they’ve got what it takes to succeed in the music industry and give themselves an individual look and sound.

Hey guys, for all you peeps in Melbourne Aus! Here are some reviews if you're thinking of heading out to a gig at a certain venue. This will give you an idea!

Stephen Bodzin @ POW

I was definately looking forward to the weekend! Seeing the same dj the week before didn't bother me as this guy is a wizard behind the decks. Having a few drinks down at the Prince of Wales bar was relaxing before getting pumped to go inside. Getting in was quick with no lines at around 11.30-12am. The place was comfortable with not too few or too many people. The tunes started off with Martin Eyerer warming up the dancefloor and getting everyone in the mood. At around 2-3am Stephen Bodzin hopped on the decks and the place was alive. Dirty, dark, chunky beats with excitement to each track. Everybody congregated out on the balcony to smoke and to have a breather. The night was still going strong at around 5.30 which then I carked it. The only problem was the huge pillar in the middle of the dancefloor which blocks ur view of the dj and the big disco balls. Apart from that, the place is very classy and easy to get around in. Fairly quick bar service too. Had a great night.

Clarity @ Bunker Lounge- CBD

Wow what a night. Such great music and such a great crowd.
The place was actually pretty busy at 10pm! Walked in through the dancefloor with heaps of couches to sit around on and have a chat. The music wasn't too loud, just right and you could see a birds eye view of the decks as the guys hopped on to play. The guys got straight into it with their tunes first with Olives heating the seat up then straight after Dave Juric and Ryan Quinsee getting everyone up dancing.
Phil Moore was the best out of the night for sure. He cranked it, throwing out hot tunes one after the other. Everyone was dancing and enjoying his set. He is the next big thing!
Drinks were easy to buy with no waiting involved except when it got fairly busy at about 11-12am. The fun kept progressing till about 4am when the owner finally decided, that was it, as he already went overtime as it was. What a successful and fun night!
Haven't had a night like that in ages.
Definately recommend it if you love techno, deep, funky, dirty house, minimal or prog.

The apartment- Saturday nights

The Apartment is down Little Burke st with a sign on the wall like an apartment sign. Bouncers were very friendly and getting in was no problem at all which was around 10pm. The place was swarming in the main area with people chatting and socilising with funky house tunes to get the party going. The main bar was very crowded and took a while to get drinks, although across the dancefloor was a smaller bar which wasn't as crowded. The music started turning to r&b classics followed shortly by some retro and dancefloor anthems. There were areas that were for private functions with plenty of couches and curtains to pull across for privacy. The dancefloor was suddenly jumping at around 11pm. A great place to go after work or to have a night out with a group.

Eve Nightclub

Set away from the busy cbd, down the quiet end of City Road, you just never know wat you'll get yourself into. As you walk through the doors, down the stairs, following the glass walls and doors, you realise you have found the bar and dancefloor. A nice long bar, easy to get drinks and a few specials were on if you are on the gueslist. The place has many mirrors and glass doors (which I got lost in a fair bit), but once you've found your way around you are much more familiar. Very classy theme to the place with very nice toilets (not sure what the boys one's were like) a fun crowd with everyone dancing. Cool dancefloor with plenty of glamourous dresses and nice shirts. The music ranged from house-electro to electro, dance and commercial. The place aged from 18-20, quite a young crowd. Good place to start off at if you're partying for the first time.

[COLOR=Fuchsia]Eurotrash CBD

Guys and girls, if you're looking for somewhere funky, trendy and cosy with class tunes then this is the place to be. Out of the way, down a small Alley called Corrs Lane (off Little Burke st) is where the fun happens. The place opens at 9 and closes fairly early at 3am. It's a good place to start off at as it is free entry. Full bar and quick to get served which was good. There are three levels of stairs which are open probably until about 12am. Functions are usually held upstairs, but as you walk to the second level or so, there is another little bar with seating area which is really cool. The place gets packed around 10.30-11pm and the dj spins at floor level so you can watch him spin and play tunes right in front of you. There is also a cute corner area with pink satin pillows and a table where you can relax, have a drink and watch the dj and the crowd at the same time. The music ranged from chill out, sexy funk to house, electro and techno. A great place where you know you'll have a good time.

Lounge on Saturdays

If you're looking for a place to relax, have a bite to eat or have a dance and a few drinks, Lounge is the place to be. The night starts off great with dinner downstairs in the resturant part, have a few drinks and relax with reggae, oldshool, trip-hop sounds. As the night hits 9.30-10pm, make your way up to the top floor not paying entry until after 10.30-11. Groovy sounds of house, electro and funk get you in the mood for more to come. Lots of seating and couches are around to enjoy your drinks and have a chat with friends. As the night hits around 11pm, Saturday night djs hit the booth and turn up the music. The place also gets quite busy and the bar queue's quickly emerge. Seating is taken away and the dancefloor is quickly filled up. The place is quite laid back with casual wear but has a flair of trend aswell. It is always the place to go if you can't decide on something, because the music is always good if you are in the mood for electro, commercial, house or techy beats.

We Love Sounds- Metro

What a great start to the long weekend with 'We Love Sounds' at Metro. Getting in was quick and finding the main room absolutely packed around 12am. The tunes were happening with fun electro house and dance. The whole place started swarming with people and as we walked right up to the top floor it got even better with some nice sexy, techy and minimal dark beats. The main attractions were James Zabiela and Nic Fanciulli, Riton, Tiga, Ben Watt, Audiofly, Spiritcatcher, Sharam Jey, Alan Braxe & Kris Menace plus all the local acts. The place was spacious and easy to walk through but getting up those stairs to the other 3 levels took a while, and there seemed to be no air con! (Don't you hate that). I counted about 5 bars in the place, one or two on every level. The sound was good and clear in all the rooms although there was a fair bit of echoing in the main room bouncing off the walls which sounded like they brought in extra bass and sound system. The crowd were mainly 18-21 yr olds.
If you enjoy a large venue with heaps of people and lots of action, this is the event and place for you.

Brown Alley- Hernan Cattaneo- Day Party

We were all expecting something amazing from Hernan, and we definately got it. Rollin Connection warmed up the hot seat and got everyone pumpin with chunky techy beats and a full house. The crowd was really amazing and friendly. As he stepped on we all clapped and he started off with a nice introduction and teasing everyones tastebuds. He did this for a while, being patient and placid and not rushing his set. As he got into the middle it started getting really hard and progressive with some really beautiful melodies and lyrics. This was definately his best set I have ever seen. The night was a definate success finally throwing the towel in around 3pm.

Some more music reviews for you! :D

August 21st 2008 02:57
Carolina Liar- I’m not over

This new single is fresh, melodic and suits a Sunday afternoon. There are definite hints of The Dandy Warhols and New Order’s latest sounds oozing through this track. There are beautiful and clear vocals sung throughout with a story about not being over his latest love. Great tune

Tina Arena's new album- Songs of love and loss

Tina gives once again another stunning performance with her own personal and unique sound to each song about love and loss. Classic and sophisticated, this album is perfect for a glass of wine for two, or just relaxing watching the sun go down. The album expresses songs, which had meaning and were timeless, and Tina gives us that modern twist. It is perfect for the weekend wind down.

A Pretty Little Alt Rock Song

June 6th 2008 03:21
Rosé by The Feeling

I've been trying to find a prettier rock song for months now but have been unable to find an alternative. I had never heard of The Feeling when I first stumbled upon this gem of a song. Needless to say, Rosé quickly changed that and I looked up this new band, only to be disappointed with the outcome. I listened to each and every song on their album Twelve Stops and Home and found crazy Pop Rock. I couldn't believe that Rosé, or even Sewn, came from the same band, let alone the same album, as their song I Love It When You Call. I wanted ten more songs like Ros

Finally The Kooks Review!

May 25th 2008 04:35
I went to see The Kooks perform at The Wiltern in Los Angeles on Monday, May 19th, 2008. This was the first time I saw The Kooks live and I didn't quite know what to expect. I have both of their albums and some of their b-sides and live stuff and I just love it all, so I was hoping they would live up to my expectations. I had previously seen a show at The Wiltern so I was prepared to compare the previous Wiltern experience to this one. I had seen The Hives at there in February earlier this year and they certainly live up to the claims many people have made about them being the best live band on earth. But more on that later...

The Kooks came onto the stage after their openning band, The Morning Benders, and started things off with Always Where I Need To Be. The performance also included songs from their first album Inside In/Inside Out, such as Seaside, See the World, Sofa Song, Eddie's Gun, Ooh La, She Moves In Her Own Way, Naive, I Want You, and Do You Love Me Still? They also incorporated songs from their new second album Konk, with See the Sun, Mr. Maker, Do You Wanna, Love It All, Stormy Weather, Sway, Shine On, and One Last Time
