Advertising - Not every message gets through

I was eating dinner our the other night for a friends birthday and the topic of ad's came up in the conversation.
The advertisement was for ladies pads. It basically involved a woman - mid 20's and an oversized beaver. They went to lunch together, went to the beach, went for coffee. And at the end of the ad, it shows how to use it etc and focussing on the fact you can take it anywhere.
For all the times it was shown on TV, It didn't occur to me that there was a connection between the beaver and the lady as beaver is slang for woman's genitals.
Interesting how I never caught on but it's a classic example of how ad's don't work but it also had the opposite effect of geting bad publicity as it was banned. Still, any publicity is good publicity because you will get people who are for it and people who are against it.
