Artist- The Last Shadow Puppets
Album- The Age of the Understatement
Label- Domino
This side project from Alex Turner, frontman of the Arctic Monkeys, and Miles Kane, from the Rascals, is definitely a trip down memory lane. It is reminiscent of good times in rock and roll long gone. Now, I am not saying rock and roll these days is bad, it is just a different kind of music from a different kind of people, a different era all together. The sounds of the late sixties can be heard but with a fresh twist. Unlike songs from the Arctic Monkeys that get me pumped up from only minutes of listening, these songs from The Last Shadow Puppets are quite calming and relaxing. The short but sweet songs of The Age of the Understatement are welcome additions to both of the musicians impeccable musical acomplishments. This side projest has the potential to turn into something BIG! I recommend this album for its fresh take on the golden years. It is also a good listen for practically any mood...unless you like Death Metal or something of that nature.
If you want to see The Last Shadow Puppets perform some of these songs live, they will be playing at the Leeds and Reading festivals this summer.
